ABSTRACT

The aim of the monograph is to analyze policies and to outline barriers and challenges facing our country in carrying out the transition towards a knowledge-based economy. The thesis defended is that knowledge-based economy has significant potential for growth, especially in countries and regions characterized with limited resources.

The issues discussed relate to the European and national policies in the knowledge triangle: education, research and innovation. An innovation system model is developed outlining the main components and the role of innovation mediators. The first stage of network analysis is carried out according to a methodology developed by the author. The problem areas of interaction are visualized by means of appropriate software. Applications of graphics and analysis software are deduced in describing statistical and network indicators for studying the innovation network coherence.
