The monograph examines the specific features of event tourism and the opportunities it offers for the development of destination Bulgaria. Global trends in tourist demand and the state of local tourism supply are indicative of the relevance of developing this type of tourism in the country. Special events, especially those that are hallmark events, and tourism that is based on them, are recognized as an opportunity to achieve a range of goals. They can also have impact on the image, attract tourists and emotionally influence them which makes them a particularly suitable instrument at this stage of the development of destination Bulgaria. The monograph focuses on the management aspects of event tourism on the basis of hallmark events and untapped potential in the country. Theoretical perspectives on the taxonomy of the issues under study are developed in chapter one. Management aspects as part of realizing the potential of event tourism are presented in chapter two. An empirical approach is adopted in chapter three – hallmark events for destination Bulgaria are systematized, a model for assessing the factors and goals of event tourism management in the country is constructed and tested by experts.
